Birthday!

Yes, I know it was several days ago. I'm an awful blogger. You can read my mom's account here. Now, time for mine.
I woke up and had no idea what to wear. Nada. You could hear the wind blowing between my ears. I found something eventually, though. I went upstairs to discover that the kitchen had been decorated in my honor. I got to school, on time, luckily. However, I was carrying a jacket, textbooks and things, and a project. I had my arms completely full. I went to Math. It wasn't so bad, except my lovely, considerate friend notified the entire class that it was my birthday. Luckily, they didn't sing, but only because they were so busy being horrified that I was only turning 14. The boys, mostly. I successfully escaped out of tune singing for one period. Then, I went to Biology, where I had a giant bug project due that day. I had a mild freakout. Then, my other friend alerted the whole class of my birthday. Lovely. Luckily, no one in there knew me enough to care, so no singing. Two down, two to go. I went to the next period, where I managed to convince my friends not to tell anyone. I needn't have worried, though. I happened to have a giant test that required complete silence. Three down, one to go. Oh, and lunch. When I got to lunch, I was pounced on by a bunch of well-meaning, excited friends in a celebratory mood. Everyone was there except one person, who emerged from the parking lot twenty minutes later singing 'Happy Birthday' very loudly. I didn't mind, though, because she brought me a giant chocolate Jamba Juice. It was delicious. Thankfully, I didn't have any friends in my last period, English. I did have a quiz, though. Ugh. But I survived with high honors. Then, I got home and had cake and ice-cream with family and opened presents. Read my mom's account to see what I got. I'm too lazy to type anymore. What can I say? It's Friday.

Friday Favorites

1. I have survived two weeks of high school with no noticeable injuries or qualms about going for another week.
2. I have also survived waking up at 5:00 in the morning for Drill practice three days this week. We'll see how I do next week. It might not be quite so fun.
3. I really love all my classes. Especially Drill and Drama. Even Math isn't so bad this year. I love my new teacher. It's her first year, and she's really young, and a great teacher.
4. I have proved my resourcefulness in creating outfits with nearly a moment's notice. Certainly a valuable skill to have.
5. I have survived walking home this week. That alone is accomplishment enough for the entire week.
6. I currently have straight A's, including a 109% in Math. I'm not exactly sure why, but I'll take it.
That's all.

School

School is starting tomorrow, and I'm starting to feel a little nervous. Just a little. Mostly because high school is so much BIGGER than little ol' middle school. I'm just hopeful that my classes aren't too far apart. Anyway, here are my classes.
1st period: Algebra II
2nd period: Drill Team
3rd period: Biology
4th period: Drama I
5th period: Geography Honors
6th period: Seminary
7th period: English Honors
8th period: Computer Tech

Sadly, they don't offer history classes to ninth graders, which is a big disappointment. I love history class! But oh, well. It'll be fun, anyway. Wish me luck!

Medieval Feast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today was the medieval feast! I had been awaiting this day ever since first grade, so it was a big, HUGE event. My grandma had helped me make my dress the night before (it was purple, with a floral panel down the middle), so I was all set. First was the coronation of the kings and queens of our grade. They had to take some oaths about ruling their 'kingdoms' well. Then was the catapult contest. There were awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, and lots of launched marshmallows. After that we went back to class to watch a movie. Finally, it was time for the feast. Everyone filed into the gym, which was decked out in traditional medieval flair. The kings and queens sat up on the stage. Table by table got food. There was cheesy bread, rolls, pumpkin bread, scones, grapes, chicken, cantaloupe, bananas, cheese, crackers, more scones, ginger ale and fruit juice, etc. We were supposed to be the entertainment for the king and queen, so we ate while expecting to be chosen. If some came unprepared or had a performance that did not please the royals or nobility (which some did) they had to do a certain amount of push-ups. I was doing a dance with some friends (ballet) so I waited and waited for our group to be called. I waited through a guy beat-boxing while humming through his nose and several piano performances, until finally we were called. It just so happened that two of my friends were in the bathroom washing off sticky hands, so we had to wait while a guy sang 'Don't Stop Believing' until my friends came back. The performance went well for the most part, though I messed up badly. Everyone still told us we did good, and no one noticed that I messed up. Too bad it's over!

Excited

I'm really excited for the 6th grade to start the Middle Ages unit in Social Studies! We're having a feast and dressing up as various people, such as kings, queens, princesses, knights, ladies, counts, dukes, duchesses, and such like. There are various other things I'm excited about, (not including the Maturation Program (groan)) such as when the whole grade goes Classic Skating on February 11, especially since I've discovered that I'm actually good at roller-skating. I'm also really glad that they aren't doing a Snowball there!

Greek Play Results

The Greek plays went well. I was really nervous until I got onstage. Then everything was a breeze, although I did talk a little fast.

The Big Greek Play

Our class has been studying a unit on Ancient Greece in Social Studies. This is one of the biggest events of the year for the sixth graders, since we have a play and a big chunk out of the the textbook to read. Our class's play this year is the story of Cupid and Psyche. I was trying out for the part of Psyche. My teacher announced that we could choose a scene and act it out with help from other students. I was so nervous when my turn came. I chose two of my friends to help me and also chose Scene Three. When I actually started to speak, the elephants stomping around in my stomach stopped, and I was able to actually get into the part. I had a lot of competition, though, one girl in particular. It's a good thing there's a Cast A Psyche and a Cast B one. We get the results tomorrow, so I'll be posting again soon!

My Audition

I just auditioned for my ballet school's Nutcracker! Here's what happened: I went to the studio, where I got my number; 9. Then we did warm ups, but most people just ran around in excitement. Then we went into the other studio, where the judges were at a table, looking intense. We stood in rows according to number. First was the toy soldiers' piece. The person who was auditioning us gave us a piece of choreography to dance. We did it according to row. I danced my best. Then was a piece for only the boys. Next was another toy soldier piece with a complicated jump. I wasn't the best, but I certainly wasn't the worst, either. Then, finally, was the party girls. It was the longest and most complicated piece of all. But I tried....... and succeeded! I AM A PARTY GIRL!!!!!!! Just like I wanted to be.

School, Again

At school today it wasn't the first week anymore, so we got right to business. It was still fun, but in a different way. The first thing we did was write, then read. And after that, (fun, fun, fun) was Treasures. Then was a much deserved (in my opinion) recess break, then lunch, then, after a little lecture, was the highlight of my day. Math. It was actually really fun. The advanced math class is usually that way. I hope it is tomorrow.

First Day of School

The first day of school was awesome! When I walked into the classroom my stomach lurched and I felt like it was the worst day of my life. Well, I learned otherwise. There were directions on the board that said to put our school supplies in our desks, fill out a paper with questions, and then read. After we were finished, the teacher walked into the classroom and started us on get-to-know-you games. Before we knew it, it was time for lunch. My teacher asked who would like to be on lunch duty, which means you help the lunch ladies wash trays and serve and things. I volunteered and six other people and I walked to the lunch room. We put on aprons and headpieces and got to work. I got the exciting job of stacking trays after they had been washed, four stacks a shelf and fifteen trays a stack. After lunch was over, we had recess and I made a lot of new friends. Then it was math time and then time to go home. I can't wait for tomorrow!

School

School starts in a tomorrow and I'm nervous. I've been to this school before, but its changed a lot. People have moved in, people have moved out, and it'll be nerve wracking to try and fit in when people hardly remember me and already have little groups that they don't want to let anyone else into. But I'll try my best.

...And the Curtain Closes

The school play was just a few nights ago! My dad said I did great. The Chinese Host was really good, and she introduced us flower dancers perfectly. Red eye shadow, white face, black eye liner, red lipstick.... Wow. That's a lot of makeup. And to think they put all that on me!

The Curtain Opens...

I auditioned for our school play yesterday. They had us fill out slips with our choices of what we wanted to be and hand them to the music teacher. Then we had to sign our names on a list. The list decided what order we would audition in.

They called small groups of 5 to go in and try out. I was 11th out of 35 (what a relief!). I talked nervously with my friends until I was called in. I spoke my loudest and clearest and pronounced properly (because when I'm nervous I sometimes use a lot of slang) and thought I did pretty good.

The next day I rushed right to the sheet of paper with the parts on it. I was a flower dancer (not what I wanted!) and they even spelled my last name wrong!

Chocolate and Marble

Today we went on a field trip. The 5th grade went to the Capitol and Mrs. Cavanaugh's Chocolate Shop. The Capitol was amazing! There was a lot of velvet, gold, marble and paintings.

What really amazed me was the dome. Outside, it just looked like this big gold painted thingy, but inside, it was so beautiful it was heart stopping. On either side there were stone arches with carved flowers. Winding up the sides were pictures of people who made a difference in the world.

But my favorite was the very top of the dome. They had painted it with a picture of the sky and seagulls. The tour guide said the seagulls were 4-6 feet tall! Holding up the balcony were stone columns. I felt like hugging them. Everything was so polished and brightly colored!

After eating lunch, we hopped onto the bus. When we got to the chocolate factory, the delicious aroma of chocolate greeted us. We watched video clips about chocolate and watched workers. We got a sample! Some kids bought candy. This boy spit chewed up candy on me-- how mean is that?
