The Nutcracker

I can't believe it's over! I wish I could go back in time and redo some of the mistakes I made, but I can't. People said I did really well though. Things in the dressing room were cramped but fun and eventful. I played War with a lot of people and won. A girl jumped on a piano bench and broke her wrist! That part wasn't fun, just eventful. Sorry there's no video feed. There was no video-taping allowed.

Greek Play Results

The Greek plays went well. I was really nervous until I got onstage. Then everything was a breeze, although I did talk a little fast.

Ceramics

On Friday we went to my aunt's school to do ceramics. I was going to repair a broken dragon that I had made the last time, but instead I decided to learn to work on the wheel. It took me a long time for me to center everything, but otherwise it was easy. I made a regular bowl and this other one that looked like an egg dish. The regular one blew up while in the kiln, but the egg dish was safe. I glazed it in this cool red stain. It looks awesome, if I do say so myself.

The Big Greek Play

Our class has been studying a unit on Ancient Greece in Social Studies. This is one of the biggest events of the year for the sixth graders, since we have a play and a big chunk out of the the textbook to read. Our class's play this year is the story of Cupid and Psyche. I was trying out for the part of Psyche. My teacher announced that we could choose a scene and act it out with help from other students. I was so nervous when my turn came. I chose two of my friends to help me and also chose Scene Three. When I actually started to speak, the elephants stomping around in my stomach stopped, and I was able to actually get into the part. I had a lot of competition, though, one girl in particular. It's a good thing there's a Cast A Psyche and a Cast B one. We get the results tomorrow, so I'll be posting again soon!

Audition List

Here is a list of things to do for a successful audition:
  1. Whatever you do, smile until it hurts.
  2. Always try your hardest.
  3. Be gracious, no matter what part you get. Accept with a smile and a "Thank you!"
  4. Discard the nervous butterflies.
  5. And, most of all, HAVE FUN!!!
I did all these things and success followed. So, go to your next audition and follow this list.

My Audition

I just auditioned for my ballet school's Nutcracker! Here's what happened: I went to the studio, where I got my number; 9. Then we did warm ups, but most people just ran around in excitement. Then we went into the other studio, where the judges were at a table, looking intense. We stood in rows according to number. First was the toy soldiers' piece. The person who was auditioning us gave us a piece of choreography to dance. We did it according to row. I danced my best. Then was a piece for only the boys. Next was another toy soldier piece with a complicated jump. I wasn't the best, but I certainly wasn't the worst, either. Then, finally, was the party girls. It was the longest and most complicated piece of all. But I tried....... and succeeded! I AM A PARTY GIRL!!!!!!! Just like I wanted to be.

Glasses

I got new glasses on Labor Day. They are dark brown with pink insides and sides. Sorry there's no pictures. This is how I ended up choosing them. Well, we went to the store, and there were pair after pair after pair of glasses. I looked through a section of glasses. Boring. Then I spotted a section of colored glasses. "Yessss!" I cheered. (In a whisper, of course.) I spotted four pairs right away. One was dark blue, one orange and one black and purple. And of course, these. It took a while, but we finally decided in favor of these. And I'm glad.

Soccer

I was just at one of Bud's soccer games. He hasn't scored yet, so my mom said for every goal he scored, he would get a Hotwheels. That motivated him. Sadly, there were only two minutes left, otherwise he would have had a whole car case full. Oh, well.

School, Again

At school today it wasn't the first week anymore, so we got right to business. It was still fun, but in a different way. The first thing we did was write, then read. And after that, (fun, fun, fun) was Treasures. Then was a much deserved (in my opinion) recess break, then lunch, then, after a little lecture, was the highlight of my day. Math. It was actually really fun. The advanced math class is usually that way. I hope it is tomorrow.

:) :) :)

Well, the first week of school is over. I can't help wondering what the next will bring. Fatty school food, short recesses, even, possibly, (horrid thought) math tests? Well, whatever it brings, I hope I'm prepared for it.

First Day of School

The first day of school was awesome! When I walked into the classroom my stomach lurched and I felt like it was the worst day of my life. Well, I learned otherwise. There were directions on the board that said to put our school supplies in our desks, fill out a paper with questions, and then read. After we were finished, the teacher walked into the classroom and started us on get-to-know-you games. Before we knew it, it was time for lunch. My teacher asked who would like to be on lunch duty, which means you help the lunch ladies wash trays and serve and things. I volunteered and six other people and I walked to the lunch room. We put on aprons and headpieces and got to work. I got the exciting job of stacking trays after they had been washed, four stacks a shelf and fifteen trays a stack. After lunch was over, we had recess and I made a lot of new friends. Then it was math time and then time to go home. I can't wait for tomorrow!

School

School starts in a tomorrow and I'm nervous. I've been to this school before, but its changed a lot. People have moved in, people have moved out, and it'll be nerve wracking to try and fit in when people hardly remember me and already have little groups that they don't want to let anyone else into. But I'll try my best.

Just Visiting

Sorry I haven't been posting for a while, folks. I've been really busy. We've been packing, packing, packing. For vacations, moving, etc. Anyway, we moved to Provo. Our grandparents are going on a mission to Armenia, (which is far, far away, so far that it's almost too far to think about) and they need us to take care of their house while they're gone. (which is a year and a half.) It's been pretty exciting so far, partly because you can ride your bike anywhere, but I can't help but feel like I'm just here for a very long visit. It's weird!

Little Dude Update

The rest of my family get Little Dudes, too. Mom gets Crazy Daisy, Dad gets Band Geek Bill, Ginger gets Jolly Polly, and me, I get Hearty Holly. They're all so cute, and so fun to make, although they are rather time consuming. Still, I like my Little Dudes!

Birthday Police

Look out! Here come the Birthday Police! No one with an upcoming birthday is safe. Big and Bud both have b-days coming up and ginger and I are both secretly preparing presents. Big and Bud are each getting a homemade stuffed Little Dude from me, and a book from Ginger. It took all day and many pricked fingers for me to finish Happy Herbie and Funny Fred, so Big and Bud had better like them, or else!

WANTED: Two Front Teeth

Ginger lost her front teeth, finally! We've been waiting for ages for her to actually start wiggling them! They were so loose she just tugged a little bit and they popped out. There wasn't any blood, don't worry.

Now she has this cute little space and she even lisps! She goes around singing, "All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth.." and she actually smiles more. She's really happy because she got a dollar per tooth. I only got a quarter each!

...And the Curtain Closes

The school play was just a few nights ago! My dad said I did great. The Chinese Host was really good, and she introduced us flower dancers perfectly. Red eye shadow, white face, black eye liner, red lipstick.... Wow. That's a lot of makeup. And to think they put all that on me!

The Curtain Opens...

I auditioned for our school play yesterday. They had us fill out slips with our choices of what we wanted to be and hand them to the music teacher. Then we had to sign our names on a list. The list decided what order we would audition in.

They called small groups of 5 to go in and try out. I was 11th out of 35 (what a relief!). I talked nervously with my friends until I was called in. I spoke my loudest and clearest and pronounced properly (because when I'm nervous I sometimes use a lot of slang) and thought I did pretty good.

The next day I rushed right to the sheet of paper with the parts on it. I was a flower dancer (not what I wanted!) and they even spelled my last name wrong!

Deck the Halls

Christmas was the best! My most surprising gift was.... drum roll please..... an iPod! I'm still thanking Santa! Winter break was full of music, laughter and fun, fun, fun, but last week was maddening! Probably the main cause is that my mom put Fleetwood Mac into the CD player. It has stayed there.

The songs are pretty good, but when you listen to them a million times, it kinda wears on you, you know what I mean? Bud likes one song in particular, and we don't hear the end of "Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow"! Aaaaargh! It's enough to make me pull my hair out!
